“You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers,” says Harrison Ford’s General Thaddeus Ross to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, in the new Marvel teaser
Anthony Mackie is adjusting to a new world order as he stars as Sam Wilson in “Captain America: Brave New World.” This Marvel Studios film, described as a grounded political thriller, hearkens back to the 2014 feature “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Harrison Ford makes his Marvel debut as General Ross, a role previously played in the MCU by the late William Hurt. After being elected president, Ross wants to bring Captain America into an official military position. Sam Wilson works to uncover a nefarious global plot, and eagle-eyed fans will catch a glimpse of Ford as the Red Hulk, going head-to-head with Cap.
Anthony Mackie has portrayed Sam Wilson since “Winter Soldier,” where he debuted as The Falcon, an ally of Chris Evans’ Captain America. He continued his role in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) and several Avengers films before leading the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” which detailed Sam’s journey to becoming Captain America.
The new feature, set for a February 2025 release, is directed by Julius Onah of “The Cloverfield Paradox.” The script comes from “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” creator Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, with “Moon Knight” scribe Matthew Orton contributing pages for reshoots that introduce a new character played by Giancarlo Esposito.
Fellow MCU newcomer Shira Haas joins the cast. Danny Ramirez returns as Joaquin Torres, who in the comics becomes The Falcon. Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson, last seen in 2008’s “Incredible Hulk,” also return to the Marvel universe.
The trailer drops weeks ahead of Marvel Studios’ next movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and just before San Diego Comic-Con, where more details about Marvel’s upcoming slate are anticipated.
On Friday, Marvel Studios released the teaser trailer and poster for “Captain America: Brave New World,” featuring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America. Mackie’s character, The Falcon, officially took on the mantle in the finale of “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” on Disney+ in 2021.
In the film, Sam Wilson meets with the newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Sam quickly finds himself entangled in an international incident and must uncover the truth behind a nefarious global plot before the mastermind turns the world upside down.
“Captain America: Brave New World” stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, alongside Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, with executive producers Louis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth.
